It’s now over a year since The Save Our Star campaign commenced with the first Community meeting being held on the 16th January 2020. Since then much work has been carried out by The Committee towards a potential ‘Community Purchase’. However, prior to the first Covid-19 Lockdown we were aware that there was external commercial interest to purchase The Star Inn which was steadily progressing but did not reach an Exchange of Contracts stage before Covid placed the whole process on ‘hold’. This has remained the same position to date.
February 2021 Update
There are now new developments concerning The Star Inn with new Planning Applications and the possible intention to offer the pub as a Leasehold business. Please see our February Update in the Documents section for more details. This will give you the Planning Application references so that you can visit the Stroud District Council planning website to see for yourselves the intended changes. This update also indicates the SOS Committee’s view of these developments.
You can be assured that we are still maintaining a ‘watching brief’ on all developments and are in contact with interested parties. Whilst we do not intend taking any action at this stage apart from making both the Parish Council and Stroud District Council aware of our concerns, we will still aim to keep you informed of any changes which affect the future of The Star Inn.
The original Asset of Community Value (ACV) registration for The Star Inn expired in June 2020. Prior to this, in view of the Star’s owner wishing to sell the pub, The Parish Council invoked the six month moratorium which ensured that no external sale could be made during a six month period. The Community could make a ‘bid’ for the purchase during this period although this did not mean an offer had to be accepted.
The Parish Council successfully re-registered The Star as a ACV in June 2020 and this now is valid for a further 5 year period. The new registration covers the pub, adjoining cottages and now the garden. You can view Stroud’s Register of Community Assets by visiting their website: search ‘Community Asset Register, Stroud District Council’ for further details.
